Pinelopi Εconomidou belongs among the painters of the ''30s generation' who wished to revive the Greek tradition. She was concerned mainly with landscapes and portrait compositions. In the latter, from which the group Women of Greece stands out, individuals in local costumes - rendered with rapid, nervous brush-strokes and in earthy colours, are usually dynamically depicted. These characteristics can also be traced in her landscapes, in which her efforts to give an account of the Greek light led her later to a sui generis expressionism.

Description
In the work The four musicians, we encounter a restrained expressionistic approach which is marked by solidly organised composition, a limited colour range, and an emotional charge. In spite of the fact that Ikonomidi never went to study in Europe, Cézanne's influences in this work bear witness to a broader education and knowledge. The planes and masses have been distributed in the space in a way which is indifferent to traditional perspective. The figures all come into the foreground and only the colour values determine their position in the space, by a clear deployment of the ochre, the blue, and the green.
