Since the 1980s, Marigo Kassi has been serving painting, renewing her art, advancing from a starting-point of representational depictions to expressionist creations, then touching upon the borders of abstraction and minimalist experimentations. Recently, she has been creating installations and works which emerge dynamically into the space, in an attempt at what is probably a temporary departure from the painted surface. In these three-dimensional works, she negotiates, with tenderness and grace, through existential Angst, nostalgia and memory in the course of existence and an awareness of time in this.

Description
The work belongs to the series 'Hydromones' of 1996. In the works in this series, which are of a minimalist tendency and employ little colour - blue and green - Kassi invokes nature, which makes its appearance as memory, as a recollection of its characteristics. In these works she depicts the water of the lake, its texture, its inner, silent nature. The work in the Averoff Gallery restricts itself to a purely minimalist rendering, with transparencies, and points of dark transition of the dense green water. The denseness of the painted surface, with its undercoat of stucco gives the feeling of old wall-paintings.
