CV
Kanas Antonis
(1915-1995)
Greek painter, born in Ismir, Turkey (1915-1995). He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts (graduated 1948), painting under the tutelage of Oumbertos Argyros and Epaminondas Thomopoulos and engraving under Yannis Kefallinos. Deeply inspired by the work of the English seascape painters, Kanas focused on marine subjects – ships, boats, shipyards, harbour views, and island life in general. His seascapes are impressionistic, and his depictions of boats are distinguished for their clarity and purity.
