Still life with fruit
After the first lessons in painting which he received in Smyrna from the painter Theodoros Antoniadis, he continued and completed his studies at the Athens School of Fine Arts. An academic painter with influences from the Realist and Impressionist movements of the nineteenth century, he produced landscapes, still lifes, and genre painting compositions.
In Still Life with Fruit, his academic training with his teachers Nikiphoros Lytras, Georgios Iakovidis, and Georgios Roïlos, and his capabilities in design in the rendering of iconographic types can be seen. For his rendering of the subject he uses, as he does in the majority of his works, rich and pleasing colours, which here realistically depict the grapes as they overflow from the basket and give light to the picture, while in the background the vine leaves form a dark background.
