Katraki Vasso
(1914-1988)
Aitoliko (5 July 1914 – 27 December 1988). A Greek painter and a distinguished printmaker. She studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts, painting under Konstantinos Parthenis and engraving under Yannis Kefallinos. She graduated in 1940 and the following year got married to Giorgos Katrakis, with whom she had two children in 1958. In her engravings, Katraki mainly used sandstone – a medium few engravers have explored, for which she earned world-wide fame. Her engravings combine a powerful realism and expressionistic qualities.
