Romanidis studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts at the beginning of the first decade of the twentieth century, under Nikiphoros Lytras, Constantinos Volanakis, and Georgios Roïlos, when academic teaching was still characteristic of the School. It would seem, however, that a definitive role in his training as an artist was played by Volanakis in terms of subject-matter and Roïlos in terms of style. Throughout his career as an artist he concerned himself almost exclusively with landscape, more so with seascape, and particularly with the depiction of landscapes by the sea, in which he employed stylistic forms and features of impressionist plein air painting.

Description
Sea-shore with Boat is one of the works in which Romanidis's technique is clearly apparent. The work is dominated by the pleasant atmosphere of the calm sea-shore, which he depicts with soft colours. He avoids - as did his teacher Volanakis - precise design for his subject. The haze of the atmosphere which unites the colour tones used for the land, the rocks, and the sea produces a synoptic picture of the subject, while the intense red of the boat and the pure white sail connote an emotional interpretation of the seascape which shapes the artist's personal approach to the subject.
