Τhe work On the water worm-like things, sea dragons strange/3 nicors, of 1996, illustrates a scene from the old Beowulf poem. The artist's interest, derived from his reading, is addressed to the combination of Eastern and Western mythology, in which he simply wishes to show that Greek civilisation is a possession of world literature and creativity. In the imaginative Beowulf poem, the most ancient battle between man and a dragon is described, and here the description portrays phantasmagorical acts in an exotic landscape. In his work, Zacharioudakis confines himself to the depiction of the special landscape, by a technique which is affected by miniatures illustrating the Gospels.
