Korytsa, 1940

In Korytsa, Koutsouris depicts the life of the Northern Epirot farming town, one day in winter, after it had been taken by the Greeks in 1940. Snow covers the roofs of the houses, the domes, and the bell-tower of the church, where Greek flags have been hoisted, while the mountains appear in the background. The movement in the streets shows the artist's interest in the rendering of life, as the human form is regarded as an integral part of nature.
